About the Authors
Saskia Sassen (born January 5, 1947) is a Dutch-American sociologist noted for her analyses of globalization and international human migration. She is Robert S. Lynd Professor of Sociology at Columbia University and Centennial visiting Professor at the London School of Economics. Sassen coined the term global city.
Niklas Maak, born in 1972 in Hamburg, Niklas Maak studied Art History, Philosophy and Architecture in Hamburg with Martin Warnke and Paris with Jacques Derrida. He graduated with a Ph.D in philosophy on Paul Valéry and Le Corbusier, in 1998. Since 2001, he has been the arts and architecture editor at the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
